The rest of the stamps showing Amazons of this group is fairly easy to assign to species.
The illustrations are all reasonably true

to nature, with the exception of the Antigua & Barbuda stamp. The forehead
is red, and not yellow as it should be. This could be a Red-crowned Parrot
Amazona viridigenalis, but then the bill should be paler, and there should be
no red at bend of wing.

The ochrocephala group Amazons are popular as pets. They are
renowned for their ability to "talk". For this reason they have been, and are still,
collected in the wild, and some populations are threatened with extinction. In
BirdLife International's book "Threatened Birds of the World" the
Yellow-headed Parrot Amazona oratrix features as Endangered: "This species
qualifies as Endangered owing to a very rapid population decline, equivalent to
68% in 10 years." |
